When was the last time you had a ceiling health check? If you’re like most people, you probably don’t think much about your ceiling until there’s a problem. When ceilings are installed, adhesive is applied to the ceiling/roof joists. Gyprock plasterboards are then installed on to the adhesive and pins are applied to hold them in place. The drying time for the adhesive is dependent on the weather, in summer the drying time is almost instantaneous. If the conditions are not factored in during installation, this could result in ceiling issues down the road.
Check your ceilings
Luckily, there are a few simple checks you can do. Firstly, look at your ceiling! If there are visible “pin” holes appearing or parts of the ceiling are looking uneven, this is a sign that the Gyprock boards are starting to come away from the roof joists. Secondly, if you are ever in doubt, simply take a picture and send it to us! We’ll be able to help you diagnose your ceiling if there is a problem.
If caught early enough, we can fix falling ceilings by propping it back into position and installing new fixings. We install our fixings closer together than standard recommendations to secure your ceiling and give you peace of mind. It is important to note that the longer the boards are left pulling away from the ceiling, the more difficult it will be to get them back into position. This would result in a bigger bill as well.
Won’t insurance cover ceiling issues?
We’ve dealt with many companies over our years in business and insurance companies use the term “maintenance” when reviewing insurance claims that involve ceilings breaking or falling down completely. In other words, your insurance may or may not cover the cost of repairs if they deem that your ceiling was not properly maintained. Hence the importance of conducting a regular ceiling health check.
